Gannon Athletics Assistant Compliance and Academics Coordinator Kelly Bommer was featured in the NCAA Leadership Development Newsletter, speaking to her leadership, creativity and career aspirations, as well as the role she serves at Gannon, created through the NCAA's Ethnic Minorities and Women's Internship Grant.
"Gannon was selected to receive the Division II EMWIG in the spring of 2019. With her diverse athletics experience, Bommer was a no-brainer for the newly created Assistant Compliance and Academics Coordinator position.
"As an aspiring Director of Athletics, the grant position provided me the opportunity to develop professionally, academically, and personally,” said Bommer. “I have been challenged to think creatively during these everchanging moments and engage in meaningful work surrounded by a supportive administration that allows me to develop as an administrator.”
Bommer’s role encompasses student-athlete development, compliance, event management and athlete programming. She has led fundraising endeavors, managed large-scale special events, and overseen impactful developments to improve the compliance reporting system during her tenure.
“The most rewarding aspect of the position has been the extraordinary moments I have been a part of that ultimately aid in the student-athletes’ transformational experience at Gannon University,” she said.
“As the SAAC Liaison, I have participated in fantastic experiences alongside the student-athletes. Their passion for the community and commitment to excellence is showcased in everyday campus activities and is so admirable to me," she said. "Their drive in and out of competition makes me want to come to work each and every day.”
