Gannon University is excited to join the Erie community in celebrating the advent of the Christmas season with the annual Light Up AJ’s Way from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3.

This event will be celebrated in coordination with Erie’s annual Downtown D’Lights events that will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. the same night in Perry Square.

These events are hosted by Gannon’s Office of Leadership Development and Campus Engagement, Office of Community and Government Relations, as well as the Erie Downtown Partnership with sponsorship from UPMC Health Plan.

We invite our family and friends in the Gannon and Erie communities to join in the festivities below.

Blessing of the Christmas Nativity Scene | 8:45 - 9 a.m.

The Blessing of the Christmas Nativity Scene will take place on the east side of Gannon’s Old Main on Peach Street. Please join us for a moment of prayer and song in preparation for this Advent season.

Light Up AJ’s Way | 5 - 6:30 p.m.

The lighting of AJ’s Way will begin at 5 p.m. on AJ’s Way, starting at the Center for Advanced Engineering, 130 W. Eighth St. Gannon’s Student Government Association President Matt Schlessman will switch the lights to light up AJ’s Way as the Gannon Pep Band performs.

Immediately following this favorite holiday tradition will be several activities including letters to Santa to raise money for Make-A-Wish, a snow globe and stuff-a-plush crafts, gift card giveaways to the new Flagship City Food Hall, and a professional photo backdrop to take family photos. Events will take place in the Center for Advanced Engineering lobby and room 104.

Following the lighting of AJ’s Way, we encourage you to attend the Downtown D’Lights events at Perry Square. Gannon and Erie community members are invited to join for a night filled with holiday music and beautiful lights, featuring a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus in Perry Square to light up the 30-foot downtown holiday tree.

UPMC Hamot will also offer COVID-19 Pfizer vaccines at Downtown d’Lights from 5 to 8 p.m. for those five years of age and older. Those eligible for the COVID-19 booster must present their COVID-19 vaccination card at this off-campus event. UPMC encourages everyone who is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccination to do so.
