Dr. Covell is the director of the M.Ed in Reading/Reading Specialist Program and ESL Specialist Program at Gannon University. She will also be teaching a variety of courses in the School of Education. Dr. Covell completed her Ed.D. in Special Education at Slippery Rock University in December of 2019. She has a total of 13 years of teaching experience within different areas of education as an Elementary classroom teacher, Reading Specialist, and ELL Instructor. Her research interests are in multicultural education, second language acquisition, and best practices in literacy instruction. She looks forward to teaching at Gannon University, where she has been welcomed with kindness and support.

Outside of work, you will find Dr. Covell spending time with her family: traveling, hiking, kayaking, and occasionally watching movies.

Dr. Covell's topic for her dissertation was to determine if the integration of a touchscreen sensitive, interactive whiteboard into an explicit phonics reading program leads to improved results in students' reading abilities in the area of fluency. Determining if the integration of a touchscreen-sensitive, interactive whiteboard into an explicit phonics reading program can improve students' reading ability is essential for struggling readers.
