GANNON RANKED SECOND IN WOMEN'S
LACROSSE REGIONAL RANKINGS
 
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women’s lacrosse team is ranked second in the initial NCAA Division II South regional rankings released Wednesday. The top two teams in both the South and North regions will be selected to participated in the Division II Final Four on May 12-13 in Salem, Va. The 2007 selection show is scheduled for Sunday, May 6.
   
West Chester is the top-ranked team in the South region. The Golden Rams are 9-0 overall and within the region. Gannon is tabbed second. The Lady Knights are 8-3 overall, 7-3 against Division II competition, and 7-1 within the region.
   
Lock Haven (7-1 overall, 7-1 in-region) and Pfeiffer (11-2, 9-2) are listed third and fourth.
   
Gannon moved its record to 8-3 with a split last week. The Lady Knights followed an 18-10 victory at Indiana (Pa.) with a 13-8 loss to C.W. Post. The squad owned a 6-2 lead against C.W. Post midway through the first half.
   
Gannon has lost three close decisions to the nation’s top three teams in the last two weeks. The Lady Knights fell to C.W. Post, West Chester, and Adelphi by an average of 2.3 goals. Two of the three losses came by a single goal, including a loss to Adelphi when the Panthers scored with five seconds left.
   
Eight Lady Knights have reached double digits in points. Krista Schunk (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Joanna Culkin (Clifton Park, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) lead Gannon in scoring with 44 points each. Schunk is Gannon’s goal leader with 39 while Culkin runs the offense with a team-high 25 assists. Acacia Cook (Clay, N.Y./Clay-NS) has started every match in goal, posting a 7.61 goals against average and .588 save percentage.
   
Gannon returns to action tonight (April 11) against Seton Hill at Gannon University Field. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
