GANNON LACROSSE RANKED NINTH IN
LATEST NCAA DIVISION II TOP 10 POLL
ERIE, Pa. - The
Gannon women’s lacrosse team dropped two spots and is ranked ninth in the
latest Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division
II Top 10 poll released Tuesday afternoon. The poll only considered matches
played through Sunday, April 13 and did not take into account Gannon’s 23-2
victory over Indiana (Pa.) Monday evening.
C.W. Post (11-0), the reigning national champion, remained No. 1 for the
ninth consecutive week. The Pioneers took eight of the 10 first-place votes
and earned 98 points. Limestone (S.C.) (12-1) is tabbed second with one first-place
vote and 84 points. Adelphi (N.Y.) (9-0) also picked up a first-place vote
and is listed third with 79 points.
West Chester (11-1) and Lock Haven (10-2) complete the top five. Stonehill
(Mass.) (8-2), Mercyhurst (10-2), New Haven (11-2), Gannon (7-3) and Southern
New Hampshire (7-5) round out the top 10.
Gannon went 0-2 last week, dropping consecutive road matches at fifth-ranked
Lock Haven (15-8) and fourth-ranked West Chester (24-7). The Lady Knights
ended the brief two-match losing streak with a 23-2 rout of Indiana (Pa.)
Monday night at Gannon University Field.
Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) leads the Gannon offense
with 38 goals, eight assists, and 46 points. Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego)
is second on the team with 45 points, accumulating eight goals and a team-best
37 assists. Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) has
started eight of Gannon’s 10 matches in goal, posting an 9.62 goals against
average and .558 save percentage.
Gannon returns to action Wednesday, April 16 at Seton Hill. Game time is
scheduled for 4 p.m.
