GANNON LACROSSE REMAINS SIXTH IN
LATEST NCAA DIVISION II TOP 10 POLL
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon
women’s lacrosse team remained sixth for the second consecutive week in the
latest Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division
II Top 10 poll released Tuesday afternoon.
C.W. Post (1-0), the reigning national champion, remained No. 1 for the fourth
consecutive week. The Pioneers took five of the 10 first-place votes and
earned 91 points. Limestone (S.C.) (5-1) is tabbed second with three first-place
votes and 87 points. Adelphi (N.Y.) (2-0) picked up the final two first-place
votes and is listed third with 75 points.
West Chester (0-1) and Stonehill (Mass.) (1-0) complete the top five. Gannon
(3-0), Lock Haven (0-0), Mercyhurst (3-0), Queens (N.C.) (5-1), and Belmont
Abbey (4-2) round out the top 10.
Gannon opened the 2008 season with three victories during its recently concluded
Spring Trip. The Lady Knights earned victories against Rollins (Fla.) (20-5),
St. Andrews Presbyterian (N.C.) (18-6), and 10th-ranked Belmont Abbey (15-11).
Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) leads the Gannon offense
with nine goals, seven assists, and 16 points. Colleen Dixon (Lafayette,
N.Y./Lafayette) is the team’s top goal scorer with 13 scores in three
matches. Dixon and Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) have 14
points each.
Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) has started every
match in goal, posting a 7.20 goals against average and .667 save percentage.
Gannon returns to action Tuesday, March 18 at Division I Canisius. The contest
is a make-up of the March 9 match that was postponed due to inclement weather.
Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
