GANNON LACROSSE RANKED SEVENTH
IN FINAL REGULAR-SEASON POLL
 
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women’s lacrosse team moved up one spot and is ranked seventh in the latest Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Top 10 poll released Wednesday afternoon.
   
Adelphi (N.Y.) ended C.W. Post’s 11-week run at the top of the charts by winning the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship last week with a 7-4 victory over the Pioneers. As a result, Adelphi (16-0) moved into the top spot with 91 points and four first-place votes.
   
Limestone (S.C.) (17-1) also picked up four first-place votes and sits in second place with 86 points. C.W. Post (16-1) and West Chester (18-1) both picked up one first-place vote and are ranked third and fourth, respectively. C.W. Post captured 83 points compared to West Chester’s 78. Stonehill (Mass.) (14-3) completes the top five with 55 points.
   
Lock Haven (15-4), Gannon (11-4), Mercyhurst (12-3), New Haven (14-3), and Southern New Hampshire (12-6) round out the top 10.
   
Gannon concluded the 2008 season last Saturday with a come-from-behind 13-11 victory against rival Mercyhurst. The Lady Knights overcame an 8-3 halftime deficit en route to their fifth consecutive victory against the Lakers, increasing their lead in the all-time series to 10-2.
   
Gannon has reached double digits in victories during each of the last four seasons and has never recorded a losing season during its 13-year history.
   
Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) finished as Gannon’s leading scorer with 12 goals, a team-best 57 assists, and 69 points. Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) and Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) were close behind with 66 and 65 points, respectively. Dixon scored a team-high 56 goals while Millerd netted 48. Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) started 13 of Gannon’s 15 matches in goal, posting a 10.84 goals against average and .486 save percentage
