GANNON'S ADAMS AND CULKIN NAMED
TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS
     
ERIE, Pa. - Gannon’s Val Adams (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Joanna Culkin (Clifton Park, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II at-large teams released Thursday. Adams was named to the first team while Culkin landed a spot on the second team.
   
Adams was one of 10 student-athletes named to the all-district first team. The junior owns a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She is a two-sport athlete at Gannon, participating in water polo and swimming.
   
Adams recorded 22 goals, 25 assists, 47 steals, and 13 sprint-offs in 26 water polo matches this season. The Erie, Pa., native ranks fourth all-time at Gannon in earned kickouts, fifth in sprint-offs, seventh in assists (53), eighth in goals (63), and eighth in steals (113). She was a member of Gannon’s 400-yard medley relay team that holds the school record (4:06.80).
   
Culkin earned second-team honors with a 3.79 cumulative GPA. The psychology major captured her third career all-region award this season. The senior attacker led Gannon in assists (45) and points (68). She ranked fourth among NCAA Division II players in assists per match (2.81) and 21st in points per match (4.25). Her eight assists against Seton Hill on April 11 was the highest single-match total in Division II this season.
   
The 2007 Academic All-District II at-large teams were selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The 10 first-team members will now move to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released June 14.
   
The District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team. The at-large team consists of all sports except football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, track and field, or cross country
