GANNON CONCLUDES ROAD SCHEDULE
WITH 19-10 VICTORY AT MOLLOY
LADY KNIGHTS POST FOURTH STRAIGHT DOUBLE-DIGIT WIN SEASON
LONG ISLAND, N.Y.
- The Gannon women's lacrosse team rebounded nicely from its loss Saturday
to second-ranked Limestone by closing out the road portion of its schedule
Sunday afternoon with a convincing 19-10 victory at Molloy. In the process,
the Lady Knights reached double digits in victories for the fourth consecutive
season under head coach Steve Wagner.
Gannon exploded out of the gates with five consecutive goals in the opening
eight minutes. Christina Blasi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle) netted
two of the five goals in the opening run. Following Molloy's first score
at the 21:24 mark of the first half, Dana Rousseau (Easton, Md./Easton)
answered 19 seconds later and started a 4-0 mini-run that put the Lady Knights
in front 9-1 with 16:53 to play until halftime. The home squad then posted
a 4-3 edge in goals during the final 15:21 as Gannon went to the intermission
with a 12-5 advantage.
Molloy tried to rally in the second half, cutting the deficit to 14-9 with
19:07 remaining, but Gannon put the match away with the next four goals.
Four different Lady Knights scored during the streak. The two teams split
the final two goals to account for the final 19-10 score.
Blasi, Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes), and Mary Eshenour
(Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) led the Gannon offense with four goals each.
Millerd and Eshenour both added two assists. Colleen Dixon (Lafayette,
N.Y./Lafayette) recorded a hat trick and one assist.
Sarah Belen (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) posted two goals and two assists.
Rousseau and Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) completed the scoring
with one goal each. Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip)
turned away 18 shots while earning the victory in goal.
