GANNON
MEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS TO
FOURTH IN LATEST REGIONAL RANKINGS
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men’s
basketball team dropped one spot and is ranked fourth in the latest NCAA
Division II Great Lakes regional rankings released Wednesday afternoon.
The regional rankings are important due to the fact that they represent how
teams qualify for the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) post-season
champions receive automatic bids. The top six remaining teams in the regional
rankings receive at-large bids to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
Regional rankings will be released every Wednesday afternoon through the
rest of the season. The NCAA Division II Tournament selection show is scheduled
for Sunday, March 9.
The top two spots remained unchanged. Grand Valley State is the top-ranked
team in the Great Lakes region with a 24-0 record against Division II teams
and 21-0 Division II in-region record. Drury (Mo.) (16-3, 15-2), Findlay
(18-3, 17-3), Gannon (19-3, 19-3), and Kentucky Wesleyan (17-4, 15-3) complete
the top five.
Lewis (Ill.) (15-5, 15-4), Northern Kentucky (14-5, 12-5), Bellarmine (Ky.)
(14-6, 13-6), St. Joseph’s (Ind.) (13-9, 12-8), and Southern Indiana (12-9,
10-8) round out the top 10.
Gannon, ranked 13th in NCAA Division II, is 23-3 overall and 14-2 in the
GLIAC. The Golden Knights sit in first place in the GLIAC South Division
and can capture their first outright division title since 1999-00 with a
victory over Mercyhurst Saturday, February 23 in the regular-season finale.
Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
