GANNON MEN'S BASKETBALL MOVES
BACK INTO NCAA DIVISION II TOP 10

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men’s basketball team didn’t stay out of the national top 10 for long. One week after dropping out of the top 10 following their loss to Findlay, the Golden Knights returned among the nation’s 10 best Tuesday afternoon. The squad jumped three spots and is ranked 10th in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/Division II Top 25 Poll.

The top nine teams remained unchanged. Bentley (Mass.) (26-0) and Grand Valley State (30-0) stayed No. 1 and No. 2 in the national poll. They are the only undefeated teams left in NCAA Division II. Bentley received five first-place votes while Grand Valley State captured the remaining three.

Winona State (Minn.) (29-1), Northern State (S.D.) (25-2), and South Carolina Aiken (23-2) complete the top five. Findlay (24-3), Drury (Mo.) (22-3), Augusta State (Ga.) (21-4), Alaska-Anchorage (22-4), and Gannon (24-3) round out the top 10.

The new rankings still feature three teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in the top 15 for the fourth consecutive week and three in the top 10 for the third time in the last four weeks. Plus, four Great Lakes region teams sit in the top 25 as Drury (Mo.) is tabbed seventh. Kentucky Wesleyan is among others receiving votes.

Gannon completed the regular season last week with a 24-3 overall record and 15-2 GLIAC mark following a 68-55 victory against rival Mercyhurst. The Golden Knights won the GLIAC South Division title outright for the first time since 1999-00. The squad posted its highest conference winning percentage and fewest conference losses since joining the GLIAC in 1995.

Gannon has won 24 games for the first time since the 1989-90 NCAA Elite Eight team went 24-8. One more victory would give the Golden Knights 25 wins for the first time since the 1986-87 NCAA National Semifinalist team posted a 28-6 record.

Gannon opens the post-season Saturday, March 1 against Ashland in a GLIAC quarterfinal game at the Hammermill Center. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The contest can be heard live on Jet Radio 1400 and via the Internet at http://www.gannon.edu/sports/werg/knightsound.ihtml.

Season ticket holders have until the end of the business day on Wednesday, February 27 to purchase their same seats for Saturday’s quarterfinal game. Any unsold reserved seating will be made available to the general public Thursday, February 28 and Friday, February 29 from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Gannon Athletic Offices, located through the 3rd and Peach Streets entrance of the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. General admission tickets are currently on sale and will be on sale in advance through Friday.

Ticket windows at the Hammermill Center open Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are scaled at $10 for reserved seating, $5 for adult general admission, and $3 for student and senior citizen general admission.
