GANNON MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM
JUMPS TO 13TH IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men’s
basketball team jumped five spots and is ranked 13th in the latest National
Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll
released Tuesday afternoon.
Bentley (Mass.) remained No. 1 with a 14-0 record. Grand Valley State (18-0),
Winona State (Minn.) (18-1), Rollins (Fla.) (13-1), and Cal State-San Bernardino
(13-1) completed the top five.
Drury (Mo.) (13-1), USC Aiken (12-1), South Dakota (14-1), West Liberty State
(11-0), and Nebraska-Omaha (14-1) rounded out the top 10. Gannon is tabbed
13th with 97 points, 24 out of the top 10.
Gannon improved to 14-1 overall and 6-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (GLIAC) after home victories against 15th-ranked Findlay
(66-61) and Ashland (77-68) last week. The Golden Knights are in the midst
of a season-high eight-game winning streak. It marks the program’s longest
win streak since the 2002-03 squad won its first eight contests of the season,
The 14-1 start is the program’s best since the 2001-02 team began the season
with a 17-1 mark.
Gannon begins a brutal four-game road swing this weekend with games at Ferris
State (January 17) at second-ranked Grand Valley State (January 19). The
trip concludes the following weekend with contests at Wayne State (January
24) and Hillsdale (January 26).
Saturday’s contest at Grand Valley State marks Gannon’s second battle against
a top-10 team in the span of 10 days. Findlay was ranked ninth when it suffered
a five-point loss at the Hammermill Center last Thursday.
