The Climate Reality Project Erie, PA Chapter and Gannon University students and faculty are bringing together local green businesses, community partners and colleges to share hands-on environmental education activities in celebration of its Earth Day Festival 2019. This event will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 1-5 p.m. in Gannon University’s Hammermill Center on 620 Peach St., Erie, Pa.
Earth Day is celebrated annually in April with events worldwide in support of the environment and to raise awareness of climate change as it impacts all of us on this planet. The theme of Earth Day 2019 is Protect Our Species. Events will feature nearly 60 environmental groups and green vendors, a K-12 art contest, electric car demonstration, live music, videos, the Atacolypse food truck and more!
The keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Sherri Mason. Dr. Mason completed her doctorate in Chemistry as a NASA Earth System Science scholar. Her work at SUNY Fredonia formed the basis for the Microbeads-Free Water Act, signed into law in 2015. In 2018 she has received both the EPA Environmental Champion award and The Heinz Award in Public Policy.
Green groups and vendors participating in this festival include: The City of Erie; Penn Future, Our Water, Our Air, Our Rights; Erie County United; Keystone Progress; Greener Behrend; Sierra Club Lake Erie Group; Tamarack Wildlife Center; I am Planet Kid; DEED; Environment Erie; Solar Revolution; Lake Erie Beach Glass; Jento Soaps; The Conscious Food Project; and Effortless Art, among many others.
