Academic Programs

fact sheet

Gannon University believes in the strength, courage and dedication of humanitarians in the field of medicine. Whether you are interested in becoming a doctor of medicine, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, chiropractic, or veterinary medicine, Gannon’s pre-professional medical programs can start you on a path that leads to the career of your dreams. The unique combination of faith-based liberal studies and progressive scientific studies prepares Gannon students for admission into any medical, dental, optometric, podiatric, chiropractic, or veterinary school in the United States.

Now is the time for you to make a difference. Although admission to health professional schools is very competitive, the demand for quality health care providers continues to grow. For example, there is currently a nationwide shortage of dentists, particularly in northwest Pennsylvania, where there is only one dentist per 9,000 people (compared to 1:4,000 nationally). Shortages of primary care physicians, optometrists, large animal veterinarians and other health care providers are also of great concern.

Graduates can expect to earn the following average annual salaries:
Chiropractor....................................................................$80,000
Dentist (General Practice).............................................$109,000 Dentist (Specialty Practice)...........................................$175,000 General/Family Practice Physician................................$124,000 Obstetrician/Gynecologist.............................................$200,000 Optometrist......................................................................$80,000 Physician (All Types).....................................................$160,000 Podiatrist (Private Practice)...........................................$108,000 Psychiatrist....................................................................$124,000 Surgeon.........................................................................$225,000 Veterinarian.....................................................................$70,000
