Overview

Gannon University offers the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in off-campus cohorts throughout western Pennsylvania and on campus in Erie. The Masters degree is a 31 credit, non-thesis, portfolio-based program. Twenty-four (24) credits are taken from the Gannon core and up to six (6) credits earned as electives. The program is completed with a 1 credit portfolio.

There are two options for completing the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction:

Weekend Option: The program is built around a teacher’s schedule with classes meeting every other Saturday during the academic year and for two one-week-long sessions in the summer. It is a pre-scheduled program in which students complete two Gannon core courses (6 credits) each semester for four semesters. Students take the electives whenever and wherever it is most convenient to them.

Summer & Online Option: This option allows students to complete the majority of the coursework in the summertime with two online courses during the school year. The schedule is as follows:

Summer 2010 Three one-week live instruction courses (1 in June, 1 in July, 1 in August)
Fall 2010 An online/blended course with two live face to face meetings
Spring 2011 An online/blended course with two live face to face meetings
Summer 2011 Three one-week live face to face instruction courses (1 in June, 1 in July, 1 in August)

Students take the electives whenever and wherever it is most convenient to them.

The startup of the cohort on the date indicated is contingent upon sufficient enrollment. Ten students are needed in order to begin the program. Maximum enrollment is twenty-four students per cohort. If sufficient enrollment for the start date is not achieved, marketing continues and the program begins once the minimum enrollment is achieved.

Electives (6 credits)

Gannon University Elective Cohort:
Gannon University offers a number of new courses in your area and online that may be used as electives.  These courses are offered at a significantly reduced cost from the tuition for the core courses.  As always, these courses are based on the "teacher-friendly" model that Gannon University has perfected.  These courses are open to any teacher needing Act 48 credit, but also count as elective courses for those students in our M.Ed. programs.

Pathways:
Gannon University will continue to offer its Pathway Programs.  Pathway credits can still fulfill the six credit elective requirement and also be included as the first two courses for an advanced certification.

Gannon University Courses:
Students may continue to use courses offered through Gannon University as M.Ed. electives.

Transfers:
Graduate students may transfer six graduate credits from other accredited universities to fulfill the elective requirement.

PLS Credits:
Students may use Performance Learning Systems, Inc. (PLS) courses to fulfill the elective requirement.  If the PLS course was taken through a university other than Gannon, the student will need to follow the required course transfer procedures to transfer the course to Gannon.  If the course was taken through Gannon, then no transfer is necessary.

On-Line:
The six elective credits may be traditional, on-line or blended courses.
