Making Medical School a Reality
for Gannon University Graduates from Erie County
- Dr. James H. Delaney was a prominent Erie opthalmologist who bequeathed $2 million to help make medical school a reality for Gannon University graduates from Erie county (Pennsylvania).
- The Delaney Medical Scholarship Fund, through Gannon, has awarded over $1.6 million.
- The average award presented for the 2005-09 academic year was $23,000, providing full tuition to medical school for five students. Individual scholarships ranged from $5,000 to $37,000.
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for scholarships from this fund, students must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a graduate of an Erie county (Pennsylvania) high school
- Must attend and graduate from Gannon University
- If a transfer student, must complete a minimum of 64 credits from Gannon and earn his/her first baccalaureate degree from Gannon
- Must demonstrate economic need *
- Must be accepted to and enroll in an allopathic medical school in the continental United States
* While this is a need-based award, anyone who meets the minimum requirements will receive $5,000 per year.
