  service opportunities
Postgraduate service opportunities are available through various programs and locations. Many people dedicate one or two years of volunteer service in the US or another country.  Most programs include living arrangements, medical insurance, and a small stipend.  There are opportunities for loan deferment during your time of service.  Also, there are often educational awards towards student loans or future education after completion of service.

TEACHING ASSOCIATES needed for The Neighborhood Academy.  The Teaching Associate Program is for bright, compassionate recent college graduates who have a passion for teaching, a heart for young people and are called to service.  By living together in community and working with others in The Neighborhood Academy community, Teaching Associates grow both personally and professionally.  Teaching Associates gain valuable life experiences while living a simplistic lifestyle.  They are supported in these efforts by the staff and volunteers of The Academy.  The philosophy of The Neighborhood Academy affirms the idea that teaching is not a job but a ministry of service.  In addition to classroom responsibilities, Teaching Associates direct athletic and arts programming, run the meal program, proctor evening study, and support the daily running of a grassroots nonprofit organization.  In exchange for commitment of time, energy, and hard work, Teaching Associates receive housing, a personal stipend (about $200 after taxes), full health and dental benefits and an AmeriCorps Educational Award.  The Teaching Associate Program is open to recent graduates from all disciplines: the primary requirements are a commitment to faith-based service and a drive to impact the lives of inner city students.  If you would like more information about the Teaching Associates Program please contact: Director of Programs at (412) 362-2001 or send an email to info@theneighborhoodacademy.org.
