Online Consulting

The Writing Center has online consulting available through email. If you would like us to take a look at a paper for you, email us with an attachment at writingcenter@gannon.edu. We will respond within 48 hours.

How does an Email consulting session work?

It's simple. You email us a paper, we look at it, offer comments, and send it back within 48 hours. Please note that we will not simply "proofread" nor "correct" your paper, but we will offer comments and questions just as we would in a face-to-face session.  Depending on the length of your paper and the problems we diagnose, we may recommend that you follow up by coming in for a face-to-face session.  Here are some hints to make your Online Consulting Session as quick and helpful as possible:

  • In your email, you must include the following:
    • Your name, email, and phone number
    • The class that you are writing for and the details of the particular assignment.
    • Your professor's name
    • Any addition questions that you have or information that will help your consultant in assisting you.

  • Attaching your paper: We will be accessing your Document through Microsoft WORD (not WORKS). To ensure that we are able to do this, please attach your paper in an appropriate format (i.e. .doc, .rtf, or .txt). If you are having difficulties attaching your document in the right format, give us a call.

  • Reading comments from your writing consultant: When you receive your paper back through email, it will be in a WORD format (accessible from any campus computer lab). Comments will appear in two fashions:
    • Colored text at the beginning or end of your writing.
    • Hightlighted text within the body of your paper. If you see this, roll your mouse over the highlighted area - a small ballon with a comment will pop up above your text.
