Ready to move to Erie, PA? Wondering what it's like to live in Erie? The information provided below will give you a feel for what there is to see and do in Erie, PA and what to expect.
Erie is located along the shore of Lake Erie in northwestern Pennsylvania. It is a relatively small city with a population of 105,000 people living within the city itself (around 250,000 in the surrounding county). It was founded in 1795 and is ranked the 127th safest city in the United States. Gannon University is located in downtown Erie, close to the lakeshore and to student housing options, restaurants, and other local attractions.
Erieites enjoy four distinct weather seasons. Located in the northern part of the United States, we experience very cold winters with a lot of snow; this is a good thing: skiing, sledding, ice skating and fihshing! (Erie is located near many very fine ski resorts.) International students, however, must be prepared for the dramatic change in climate. Most students from warmer countries report feeling very cold and sometimes "catch a cold". With proper rest, nutrition, and a vitamin supplement, international students learn to enjoy the winter just as much as an Erie native.
If you are arrive at Gannon in January, however, you should be prepared for cold temperatures and snow. DRESS FOR THE WEATHER. Wear shoes that cover your feet and long sleeved shirts/jackets. You will need them. Students arriving in May or August should expect warmer temperatures and average summer highs as listed below.
