Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the hosts?
Our hosts are undergraduate students who are members of the Office of Admissions 4-Star Volunteer Program. Having recently gone through their own college search, they are a great resource. We encourage you to ask them about their search process and experiences.

What does the program cost?
The accommodations in the residence halls are free. Your host will also give you three meal coupons which you can use in the cafeteria and food courts. We encourage you to bring money for any activities or entertainment in which you might participate.

What do I need to bring?
You will be staying in a residence hall room with your student host. Therefore, you should bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, and toiletries. Casual clothing and comfortable walking shoes will serve for all occasions during your visit. We recommend that you bring an umbrella and clothes appropriate for the season. Erie weather varies considerably, so come prepared.

Where should I park?
If you plan to park your vehicle on campus during your overnight visit, you will need a visitor's permit in order to park in the Office of Admissions lot. Please make sure to indicate on the OverKnight Visit Request Form if you plan to bring your vehicle to campus so we know to send you a visitor's permit.

Who do I contact if I'm not going to be able to meet my host on time or need to cancel?
If you experience any travel difficulties, call the Office of Admissions immediately. The phone number will be included in the confirmation letter you receive.

What are my responsibilities as a program participant?
Participants, as well as the parent or guardian of participating students, are asked to sign a responsibility waiver, which will be enclosed with the confirmation materials or can be downloaded online.  We ask that you send this form back before your visit.  Please note that if we do not have this form on the day of your scheduled visit, you will not be able to participate in the program.

As a Gannon guest, we expect you to abide by the rules and regulations of the university. These policies are designed to build a friendly, caring, and safe atmosphere. When staying in a residence hall, all of the rules and regulations that apply to Gannon students will apply to you. If you would like a copy of the residence hall policies or the Gannon Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct, we will be happy to send it or provide one upon your arrival. We expect you to accept responsibility for your own actions and for any mishap that might befall you as a result of those actions. In return, Gannon University will accept responsibility for any mishap, loss, or injury that is caused entirely as a result of a wrongful act on the part of its employees or agents.

What should I remember to do?

  • Bring emergency information (including phone numbers) to give to your host.
  • Make sure you ask questions, make notes, and utilize all the resources available to you during your visit.
  • Have a good time.
