Day Classes

Those students who are able to pursue their education full-time must often attend Day classes. Also, those working second- or third-shift hours wishing to attend college part-time often elect Day classes to meet their needs. Day classes generally follow Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday combinations.

Evening Classes

Evening classes generally follow Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday combinations, although some evening classes meet just once a week for three hours. A student working daytime hours could elect to attend classes one, two, or four nights a week, depending on personal preference and time constraints. Many programs require attendance in some daytime classes.

Open University

Part-time students who are unable to fit on-campus courses into their schedule have found course work through the Open University (independent study) to be particularly beneficial. Some of the courses are available over the Internet to provide additional flexibility in your busy life. Open University provides a variety of program requirements in this format. This may allow students to complete some coursework at times when classroom attendance is impossible.

A syllabus, textbook, and in most cases, a manual are provided to guide the student through the course and permit working at an individual pace at home. Completed lessons are mailed back to the instructor, and testing is done by arrangement on campus or through an approved proctor. The instructor is available for consultation via phone, e-mail, or in person.

Summer Sessions

While summer class attendance is not required in most programs, students may elect to earn additional credits during this time of year. Courses are of varying lengths, with start dates staggered from early May through mid-July. Students may attend classes while still taking vacations and spending time with their families over the summer.
