Gannon University believes pharmacists are crucial to the safe administration of medication as treatment for disease and injury. Whether you want to understand the use, composition and effects of medicines; dispense drugs prescribed by doctors and health care practitioners; provide information about medicines and their uses; answer questions about over-the-counter drugs; record all medicines customers use or compound medicines, Gannon offers a choice of five pre-pharmacy programs that can help put you on the right path. As a pre-pharmacy major, you will prepare yourself for applying to pharmacy school.
Pharmacists work in a wide variety of areas including drug stores, health maintenance organizations, hospitals, pharmaceutical sales, research and education. Due to substantial growth of middle-aged and elderly populations and an increase in medicinal usage, employment opportunities for pharmacists are excellent and are expected to increase much faster than average. For the past several years, Gallup Poll survey results have rated pharmacists as the most trusted professionals. The average annual starting salary for a pharmacist is $75,000.

Gannon University and Duquesne University offer a competitive, six-year Doctor of Pharmacy program. Students in this early-entry Pre-Pharmacy Program spend two years at Gannon and then transfer to Duquesne, where they complete their Doctor of Pharmacy degree in four years. Once enrolled in the Gannon phase of this program, students cannot apply to any other school of pharmacy.
Gannon and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) offer an accelerated, five-year Doctor of Pharmacy program. In this program, students will complete the two-year undergraduate program in Pre-Pharmacy at Gannon and then matriculate into LECOM School of Pharmacy to complete the Doctor of Pharmacy degree in three years. The program at LECOM will be offered in a rigorous 12-month program per academic year. Once enrolled in the Gannon phase of this program, students cannot apply to any other school of pharmacy.
Students in the non-affiliated pre-pharmacy program can choose any one of the 100 pharmacy schools across the country. There are no conditionally guaranteed seats, but students are free to apply to multiple schools. After completion of a typical first semester curriculum, students must choose what pharmacy school(s) to apply to. Once a student chooses a pharmacy school, an additional curriculum sheet outlining requirements and a curricular semester schedule will be developed. A minimum of 60 credits must be achieved within the pre-pharmacy program.
All pre-pharmacy programs offered by Gannon do not accept earned AP credits or CLEP credits; moreover, the transfer of previous college credits is strongly discouraged.
