What You'll Be Doing

Gannon University believes pharmacists are crucial to the safe administration of medication as treatment for disease and injury. Whether you want to understand the use, composition and effects of medicines; dispense drugs prescribed by doctors and health care practitioners; provide information about medicines and their uses; answer questions about over-the-counter drugs; record all medicines customers use or compound medicines, Gannon offers a choice of five pre-pharmacy programs that can help put you on the right path. As a pre-pharmacy major, you will prepare yourself for applying to pharmacy school.

Pharmacists work in a wide variety of areas including drug stores, health maintenance organizations, hospitals, pharmaceutical sales, research and education. Due to substantial growth of middle-aged and elderly populations and an increase in medicinal usage, employment opportunities for pharmacists are excellent and are expected to increase much faster than average. For the past several years, Gallup Poll survey results have rated pharmacists as the most trusted professionals. The average annual starting salary for a pharmacist is $75,000.
