What You'll Be Doing

Two students working on a project Gannon University believes systematic thinkers can better the processes that are used in all business organizations. Whether you are interested in data administration, information resource management, systems analysis, applications development, network coordination, web and e-commerce initiatives, or technical operations, Gannon’s management information systems (MIS) program can help you build a foundation of knowledge from which to work. As an MIS major, you will develop skills in design, modeling, development, and testing of computer and information systems. To support these technical skills, you will also learn to use and to critique technology and apply technical skills in business while practicing teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills.

The MIS field is one of the fastest growing employment markets in today’s society. Within the next ten years, one million systems-related professionals will be needed in the United States. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, salary offers for MIS graduates average about $45,000 per year, with a range of $40,000 to $48,000.

 

College Connections

The computer and information sciences (CIS) department houses computer science, management information systems and software engineering majors.

The CIS department operates three laboratories – a teaching lab, a multimedia lab and a networking lab.

Gannon MIS majors have the opportunity to be involved in organizations that include the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity and the Student Development Trust.

    • Graduates from Gannon’s management information systems (MIS) program enjoy nearly 100 percent placement in employment or graduate studies.

    • Recent Gannon MIS graduates have secured employment at top organizations, including: Boeing Aircraft, Citizens Bank, Erie Insurance, General Electric, Hamot Medical Center, Lord Corporation, Progressive Insurance and Saint Vincent Health Center.

    • MIS undergraduates enjoy internships which complement their education at places such as American International, Erie Insurance, General Electric, Lord Corporation, Pittsburgh Technology Council, Port Erie Plastics, Simakas and Stargate Industries.
