Gannon University believes mechanical feats can better the way we live, work and think. If you are interested in researching, designing and developing new mechanical systems, Gannon can help connect you with the second largest, broadest and one of the oldest engineering disciplines – mechanical engineering. Students in the mechanical engineering program need to be creative and inquisitive, yet analytical and detail-oriented.
Competition and technology are forcing companies to improve and update product design and optimize their manufacturing processes. Employers rely on engineers to increase productivity and find solutions to various problems so they can remain competitive in the global market. Because of this demand, the job market is exceptionally good for engineers in general and particularly for mechanical engineers. The average starting salary of a mechanical engineer is $50,000.
The School of Engineering and Computer Science in cooperation with The Dahlkemper School of Business Administration offer a special program leading qualified undergraduates to a bachelor of science in engineering degree and a master of business administration degree. This program is completed in five years of full-time study (including three summers).
• Gannon’s mechanical engineering graduates enjoy 100 percent job placement and 100 percent graduate school acceptance.
• Gannon offers the only master’s degree in mechanical engineering in the region.
• Gannon mechanical engineering students have the opportunity to develop leadership skills through student organizations such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE).
• Gannon’s engineering graduates are offered up to five times as many jobs as the average college graduate.
• Seniors in Gannon’s mechanical engineering program have the opportunity to specialize in energy; fluid and thermal systems; or mechanics, structures and machine design. Students work with their advisors to develop an individual course of study.
• Gannon’s programs have been fully accredited by ABET, Inc. for over 40 years.
• A five-year cooperative professional practice program is also available. The student must meet the same course requirements of a four year student. Additionally, a total of four work sessions in industry are included.
