Gannon University believes in the many possible ways in which problem solvers can improve our world. If you are interested in building locomotive software, solving communication problems, working for a private company or serving a governmental agency, Gannon’s electrical and computer engineering program can help you explore the diverse engineering career opportunities available in today’s rapidly changing global economy. As an electrical and computer engineering major, you will develop excellent technical skills as well as communication and leadership skills that will make you an effective engineer.
For the past four years, our graduates have enjoyed a 100 percent placement rate, either in employment or in continuing on for higher educational degrees. Gannon’s program prepares you to meet engineering challenges by operating as a business-like organization while promoting a vision for service. Our graduates help to solve problems through research and development, design, quality control, manufacturing processes, technical services and more.
There are two technical options in electrical engineering.
The freshman year engineering classes, as well as the Core of Discovery classes throughout all four years, are the same for both options. Students should select either option by the beginning of their sophomore year.
Gannon’s Embedded System Technology Center was founded in 2004 to help bridge gaps between engineering projects within industries.
All Gannon electrical and computer engineering students have the opportunity to participate in national professional organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the National Honor Society for Electrical Engineers (Eta Kappa Nu).
The engineering department has the largest group of international students from countries such as China, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore and Africa.
Professors in the electrical and computer engineering program are dynamic, experienced scholars with a passion for their profession. They actively seek industry support, which has resulted in many software donations to the department.
The department has published more than 34 peer reviewed professional technical articles in national and international conference proceedings over the past four years. Faculty are continuously engaged in research and writing in an effort to bring students and the greater Gannon community the latest knowledge and trends.
The ECE department won the Outcomes Achievement Award in 2007 as the outstanding department from the College of Sciences, Engineering and Health Sciences for achieving an excellence in quality improvement for its education processes and goals.
• Our graduates not only obtain jobs in their field, but are offered up to five times as many jobs as the average college student.
• Our electrical engineering program has been fully accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET Inc. for more than 30 years. Our most recent successful ABET visitation was in 2005.
• Our students can gain professional experience and earn academic credits through internships and co-ops. Through a special five-year program, our students complete a paid, one year, full-time cooperative education placement (alternating full-time studies and full-time employment).
• Our close relationship with Erie’s GE Transportation plant gives students opportunities for internships, co-ops and jobs, and allows for constant industry input into existing and new course offerings.
• Gannon offers the only master’s degrees in engineering in the region. Students can specialize in electrical engineering, embedded software engineering or engineering management.
