What You'll Be Doing
Gannon University believes focused and determined students can accomplish great things. Engineers use science, technology and scientific reasoning to design, construct and maintain production facilities, and to distribute goods, services and information. Engineers need to be creative and inquisitive, yet analytical and detail-oriented. Gannon chemical engineering majors will be prepared to work in all aspects of high-tech industries, from plant design and operation to management, advertising and sales.
As manufacturing becomes more automated and environmental restrictions more stringent, the demand for chemical engineering skills and training grow. Because of this demand, the job market is exceptionally good for engineers, and there promises to be an even greater need for chemical engineers in the future (e.g. 40,000 chemical engineers will be needed in the next ten years for the petroleum industry alone). Chemical engineers have consistently been paid the highest starting salary of all baccalaureate degree holders.
College Connections
Gannon University’s chemical engineering program is offered in cooperation with the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Akron. Students may choose a five year program resulting in a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Gannon University, and a bachelor of science in chemical engineering from either the University of Pittsburgh or the University of Akron.
Gannon’s close relationship with Erie’s GE Transportation plant gives chemical engineering students opportunities for internships and co-ops, and allows for constant industry input into existing and new course offerings. Co-ops are also available at the cooperative schools (listed above) and students are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities to work in industry.
