As a chemical engineering major you will be prepared to work in all aspects of high-tech industries, from plant design and operation to management, advertising and sales.
• Gannon University’s chemical engineering program is offered in cooperation with the University of Pittsburgh. Students may choose a five-year program resulting in a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Gannon University and a bachelor of science in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
• Gannon’s chemical engineering students have the opportunity to develop leadership skills through student organizations like the American Chemical Society (ACS), Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) and the Society for Women Engineers (SWE).

• SCHOLARSHIPS – The chemistry department offers a unique scholarship opportunity for high school students; the top three candidates (based on a test given each fall during Open House) are awarded scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000.
• INTERNSHIPS & CO-OPS – Gannon’s close relationship with Erie’s GE Transportation plant gives chemical engineering students opportunities for internships and co-ops, and it allows for constant industry input into existing and new course offerings. Co-ops are also available at the cooperative schools and students are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities to work in industry.
• As manufacturing becomes more automated and environmental restrictions more stringent, the demand for chemical engineering skills and training grow. For example, 40,000 chemical engineers will be needed in the next ten years for the petroleum industry alone.
• SALARY – Chemical engineers have consistently been paid the highest starting salary of all baccalaureate degree holders.
