Overview

Computer and Information Science (CIS) has been one of the most dynamic fields in recent years. With the growing demand for CIS professionals, this program is designed to provide advanced studies for those who wish to continue preparation for effective participation in computer-related professions. The program provides continuing education in advanced subjects for CIS professionals who wish to stay abreast of the rapidly changing technological world. Emphasis is placed on the development of student’s skill for independent study and continued professional growth.

Objectives

The graduate offering in CIS provides systems-related professionals with opportunities to continue preparing for active and up-to-date participation in their careers or for entrance into a doctoral program. The educational objective of this program is to produce graduates who have skills as decision-makers to objectively identify both problems and potential solutions that affect computer and information systems.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree in computer and information science or in a related field from a regionally accredited institution with a QPA of 2.5/4.0, or better.

Applicants without appropriate backgrounds may be admitted, but will be required to take additional course work as determined by the usual academic approval process. An applicant is required to have had the following, or approved equivalent courses, or work experiences:

  • C++ Programming, advanced competency
  • Systems Analysis and Design or Software Engineering
  • Database Management systems
  • Discrete Mathematics or Statistics
  • Operating Systems
  • Computer Architecture
  • Networks Basics

Applicants must submit the following for admission consideration:

  • Completed graduate application
  • Official transcripts for all prior college course work
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Resume
  • TOEFL scores, if English is not a first language

A committee appointed by the department Chairperson will review the applications for admission. The committee will also weigh other factors such as work experience in related areas of CIS in making its determination.
