Gannon Hosts More Than 100 Middle School Students for MathCounts
Posted: February 20, 2013Gannon University hosted more than 100 middle school students from 20 area schools for a recent MathCounts competition.
The event is sponsored by the Erie chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers. MathCounts is a fun competition designed to pique students’ interest in mathematics by making math achievement challenging and exciting.
The participating sixth, seventh, and eighth graders took part in both written and oral examinations that tested their skills in algebra, geometry, probability, and equations, among others.
Winners from the competition at Gannon advance to the state MathCounts competition, to be held in March in Harrisburg.
Local participating schools include Creekside Christian School in North East, Fort LeBoeuf Middle School, Harbor Creek Junior High School, Harding School, James S. Wilson Middle School, James W. Parker Middle School, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Our Lady of Peace School, Our Lady's Christian School, St. George Catholic School, St. Luke School, Villa Maria Elementary School, Walnut Creek Middle School, and Westlake Middle School. In addition, schools from Warren, Russell, Johnsonburg, and Youngsville participated.
