Gannon University is honored to serve an Erie community that is now home to two Catholic Colleges of Distinction. Gannon University has earned national recognition as a 2016-17 Catholic College of Distinction. Gannon University, Erie's diocesan university, is one of 74 across the nation to have been selected as a Catholic College of Distinction.

The University is honored to receive recognition for dedication to its Mission and Catholic Identity, but more importantly for how these characteristics are lived out and create positive impact on the students and our community.

Colleges of Distinction is a national organization that identifies colleges and universities that achieve exceptional results in four categories of achievement that the organization calls the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community and Successful Outcomes.

The annual process to select the nation's Colleges of Distinction begins with nominations by high school counselors and educators. Colleges are evaluated on key indicators of the Four Distinctions, including student engagement, curriculum innovation, a review of each institution's first-year experience, as well as its strategic plan, alumni success and other measures of satisfaction. Qualifying colleges are then invited to join Colleges of Distinction.

This recognition is the latest in a series of high-level honors received by Gannon University in the last two years.

U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges, 2016 Edition named Gannon University as a "Best Value" School, the only regional university in northwestern Pennsylvania to be so honored. Gannon University was also listed in the top fifteen of PayScale.com's College ROI Report: Best Value Colleges in Pennsylvania. Additionally, the University ranked number 24 nationally in the category of best value religious schools as measured by the 20-year net return on investment of a Gannon University bachelor's degree.

In July, Gannon University was recognized as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for in the Chronicle of Higher Education's 2016 annual report on The Academic Workplace, which recognizes colleges and universities for specific best practices and policies. Gannon University received recognition in two of the 12 categories measured.

"We're happy to recognize Gannon University for developing skills relevant to graduates' lives," said Tyson Schritter, executive editor for Colleges of Distinction. "High student engagement in college is one of the keys to a successful undergraduate education. With an increasing emphasis on hands-on learning techniques, Colleges of Distinction applauds Gannon University for practicing methodologies that prepare students for their futures."
