This Weekend Gannon University Gives Back To the City Of Erie

Day of CaringPosted: April 23, 2015

More than 400 Gannon University students, alumni, members of faculty and staff and their families are expected to volunteer throughout the Erie community for United Way of Erie County's Day of Caring on Saturday, April 25.

The community-wide event will find volunteers at sites throughout the city. Gannon University volunteers will focus their efforts on the neighborhood surrounding campus that is the object of the Erie-GAINS (Erie-Gannon Alliances to Improve Neighborhood Sustainability) initiative.

New to the Day of Caring effort in 2015 are projects associated with Our West Bayfront, a new community initiative to enhance the quality of life in Erie's West Bayfront neighborhoods by promoting civic involvement, thoughtful development, historical preservation and neighborhood pride. Members of the Gannon community will be cleaning up and beautifying the neighborhood and performing simple upkeep tasks on homes in the area.

"Day of Caring is a wonderful way for students to get more involved in Erie-serving side-by-side with community members for everyone's benefit," said Sara Nesbitt, program assistant at Gannon's Center for Social Concerns, who is coordinating the Gannon effort. "It's also a wonderful way to end the academic year on a positive note."
