Posted: October 2, 2014

Children of Gannon University and Villa Maria College alumni will benefit from a $71,302 scholarship established by the University's Alumni Association. Gifts to the Gannon University Alumni Association Endowed Legacy "Power" Scholarship were made by leading alumni and from affinity relationships with various businesses including Howard Hanna Realty, Liberty Mutual Insurance, B.F. Fields Moving and Storage, Loesel-Schaaf Insurance Co. and Spectrum Direct. These businesses have agreed to allocate a portion of every dollar spent with them by Gannon and Villa Maria College alumni to the Legacy Scholarship.

"The Legacy 'Power' Scholarship makes Gannon's strong tradition of a quality education more accessible to the children of Gannon University and Villa Maria College alumni," said Brian Kurtz, president of the Gannon University Alumni Association. "We look forward to the student recipients becoming engaged members of a larger community because of the generosity and support of our donors and affinity businesses."

The Gannon University Alumni Association Endowed Legacy "Power" Scholarship is among the 231 scholarships at Gannon endowed by alumni, parents, friends, corporations and foundations. Last year, Gannon University awarded $914,000 in scholarships to 413 deserving students from a diversity of locations, backgrounds and financial circumstances. Ninety-seven percent of students at Gannon University received financial aid in the 2013-14 academic year. Endowed gifts to Gannon can also help fund faculty positions, professorships, chairmanships, faculty excellence and study-abroad programs at the University.

The Gannon University Alumni Association engages and connects alumni to the University and to one another and promotes volunteer services of alumni in support of the University's Mission and strategic plan.
