Naomi Shihab Nye

Naomi is the author and/or editor of more than thirty books of poetry, fiction, essays, and children's books. She has earned numerous awards and honors, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Witter Bynner Fellowship from the Library of Congress, the Lavan Award from the Academy of American Poets, the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award, the Paterson Poetry Prize, four Pushcart Prizes, and numerous honors for her children's literature, including two Jane Addams Children's Book Awards. In October 2012 she was named winner of the 2013 NSK Neustadt Prize for Children's Literature.  In January 2010 Nye was elected a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.

Her work explores her Palestinian-American heritage, the cultural diversity of her home in Texas, and her experiences traveling in Asia, Europe, Mexico, Central and South America and the Middle East. She has traveled to the Middle East and Asia for the United States Information Agency three times, promoting international goodwill through the arts.
