GU Communication Arts Facts
Communication arts students have access to upgraded digital equipment in our audio production studio, media center/TV studio, and multimedia studio. Students use the latest industry standard software, including Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Flash and more.
Gannon communication arts alumni work in locations such as New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Washington, D.C. and Erie. They work for nationally renowned companies including Disney, Nickelodeon, ESPN, CNN, General Electric and Erie Insurance, and local media outlets such as WSEE, WICU, WJET and WQLN.
Students can find practicum experiences and internships at local TV affiliates, radio stations, cable outlets, advertising agencies, sports teams and nonprofit organizations.
Ninety percent of Gannon’s communication arts majors successfully continue in their chosen career path upon graduation.
Employment projections for positions in electronic media through the year 2014 are expected to increase by more than 10 percent.
About the Program
Communication arts is housed in the Gannon University College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. Students in the communication arts program interact with students and professors in the fields of business, advertising, journalism, political science, language and sports management and marketing.
Communication arts students receive hands-on experience with publication through their work on
The Gannon Knight
student newspaper, and
the online magazine.
Communication arts students participate as on-air performers, news directors, managers and producers for 90.5 WERG, the University-owned 3000-watt radio and streaming (
) media station.
Communication arts students participate in the technical preproduction and production processes of the Schuster Theatre’s main stage. Lighting, sound design, set construction, scenic painting and graphic design are integral elements for this large scale theatrical program.
